Julian Emery
SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER
Julian Emery is a songwriter, producer and guitarist with over two decades of professional experience. His credits include work with Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, McFly and Nothing But Thieves.
He co-wrote and co-produced ‘Motion in the Ocean’, the #1 album by McFly which spawned three UK #1 singles including the ever popular ‘Starlgirl'.
Alongside regular writing partner Jim Irvin, Julian wrote seven songs on Nothing But Thieves’ self-titled debut album, which he also produced. The record included the singles “Trip Switch” (#1 on the US Alternative Chart, February 2016), “Graveyard Whistling” and “Ban All The Music.”
The band’s second album, Broken Machine (2017), entered the UK Albums Chart at #2 and featured six songs written by Julian, including the single “Sorry,” the title track “Broken Machine,” “I Am Not Made By Design” and the album opener.
The third album, Moral Panic (2020), entered the UK Albums Chart at #3 and included five songs written by Julian, among them the singles “Impossible” (Radio X Record of the Year) and “Real Love Song” (Radio X #2 Record of the Year).
On the band’s fourth album, Dead Club City (2023), which reached #1 in the UK, Julian wrote multiple tracks including “Welcome to the DCC,” which was named BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record of the Year. He has also written the first single from the band’s forthcoming fifth album.
In addition to his work with Nothing But Thieves, Julian has worked with One Ok Rock, Lissie (“When I’m Alone”), Simple Plan (“Astronaut”), The Amazons (“Doubt It,” BBC Radio 1 A-list), You Me At Six (Suckapunch), Skillet, Skindred (produced the album Smile, UK #2), Gavin DeGraw, Michelle Branch, Halestorm, Anne Marie, American Idol, Chinese Idol, Chaka Khan, Jack Savoretti and Gabrielle Aplin across writing, production and recording projects. He also maintains an active catalogue in production music and sync through Sony, Universal, BMG, Netflix, BBC, Xbox and PlayStation for film, television, gaming and advertising.
